Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed in Washington DC. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served on a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms and also the issue of arms control. She traveled widely together with the president Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
